Covid-19 has impacted our lives in large and small ways. While simple pleasures, like a night at the movies, are not possible at this time, communities, businesses, and organizations are coming together to help one another and get creative with ways to restore some normalcy to our lives.
Back in April, The Nantucket Dreamland Theater announced the development of The Dreamland Drive-In. Plans started at that time thanks in part to a fundraising campaign that exceeded its $139,000 goal in less than six days. As of June 15, the campaign has raised over $182,774. Since April, however, there have been ups and downs trying to secure a location to accommodate the new drive-in theatre.
Fortunately, this changed Thursday, June 11th when the Town Of Nantucket approved a location using the parking lot of the athletic fields at 7 Nobadeer Farm Road. Construction is already underway with tentative plans to open to the public on July 1st.
While development is underway, please understand that all plans and dates are tentative at this time.
-
The drive-in is expected to accommodate cars and provide a socially-distanced lawn seating area.
-
Films will include first-run and classic movies.
-
The venue will not only accommodate social-distancing guidelines for this summer but will create a new island tradition for the future.
-
Dates of operation are expected to be July through September.
-
Sound will be transmitted through an FM transmitter via mobile app preventing the need for loudspeakers.
-
Weather permitting, they plan on screening one movie per evening beginning at dusk.
