4.5 Gay Street was part of 6 Gay Street, and was subdivided in 1958, to Vice Admiral of the Navy, Marcel A.E. Gouin, from his family (who owned 6 Gay Street). He was a Nantucket native, naval aviator, graduate of the Naval Academy, and Commander of the Aircraft carrier Midway just after World War II. There was a barn on the site, which he took down to build the cottage. Nowadays, the home has been completely renovated, repainted and refurnished and offers in-Town convenience with traditional charm. The brick courtyard area offers an additional quiet retreat and features Adirondack style furnishings. First Floor: Enter into a welcoming foyer; Formal dining room with seating for eight; Large living room with a fireplace and flat screen TV; Two bedrooms, one with a trundle daybed that can be made up as a king and one with a queen sized bed; kitchen boasts maple cabinets, Viking stove, Bosch dishwasher, island with seating for three and granite counters; Full bath. Second Floor: The second floor consists of the master bedroom with a mahogany Queen sleigh bed, flat screen TV and a private bath with shower; Bedroom with two Twin pencil post beds and a flat screen TV. This room leads to a small (10X10) area, with child size furnishings, 2 toddler beds, bean bags and toys (only suitable for small children as the ceiling is low); Bath with shower. Lower Level: Full size Bosch washer and dryer. There is no off street parking.
