Covid-19 has impacted our lives in large and small ways. While simple pleasures, like a night at the movies, are not possible at this time, communities, businesses, and organizations are coming together to help one another and get creative with ways to restore some normalcy to our lives.
The Cape Cod & Islands Association of Realtors has launched the Safe Summer 2020 Initiative in response to needs concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nantucket has surf, often good, sometimes great, always fun. While the rest of the East Coast is often flat for long periods of time during the summer, the South Shore of Nantucket picks up swells from several directions by sticking out into the Atlantic like an elbow. Whether you are looking to give it a try or a seasoned pro, Nantucket is a great place to surf.
Many Island restaurants and bakeries are offering takeout, delivery, and curbside pickup. Below is a list of establishments with information and hours of operations. We have also provided information concerning grocery shopping as well. This list is as of May 15th, 2020.
As our community is impacted by COVID-19, gifts to the food pantry will help ensure that vulnerable children, families, and seniors have enough to eat. NFP is responding to an increased need for food as families are out of work, children are out of school, seniors lose access to food and supplies and quarantined individuals cannot access grocery stores. The impact of school and work shutdowns, event cancellations, and restaurant closures will have far-reaching repercussions that will extend beyond the length of the viral pandemic.
To support our oncology nurses and technicians in these trying times of pandemic, when vulnerable cancer patients continue to require treatment, Nantucket Triathlon Club and Monument Running Group are hosting a virtual “Nantucket Solo Run for Hope” on May 1, 2, and 3 with three different run distances 5k, 10k and Half Marathon, plus a 5k walk. The beneficiary of the Solo Run for Hope is Swim Across America – Nantucket, which supports on-island cancer treatment and patient care through the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Oncology Department and PASCON, the Island’s palliative care provider. All of these nurses and technicians are on the front lines every day.
